Era7 Bioinformatics is a Bioinformatics company specialized in sequence analysis, knowledge management and sequencing data interpretation.
Our area of expertise revolves around biological sequence analysis, particularly Next Generation Sequencing data management and analysis.
Our team is multidisciplinary covering bioinformatics, mathematics, software development, biochemistry, immunology, biotechnology and medicine. A team formed by people with different backgrounds is able to analyze the same problem from different point of views.
We are involved in several research projects. We enjoy our work and are an enthusiastic team, passionate about sequences and new technologies. Difficult projects are a challenge for us and we enjoy designing and developing new solutions.
Eduardo Pareja is a Medicine Doctor that begun working in transplant Immunology and did his PhD Thesis about human HLA-DR antigens in 1981 while working as a professor of Biochemistry at The University of Cordoba. After that, he went to work at a regional hospital as Head of the Section of Immunology where he run a Transplant Immunology Unit and very soon he pioneered in Spain the application of Molecular Biology to clinical immunological environments. At the same time he worked in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biology developing programs for tissue typing and genomic typing. In this period he published different papers in International Journals, he directed several PhD Thesis and designed innovative genomic typing methods for HLA-DR genes. The last years in the hospital he was in charge of Web Applications area in The Medical Informatics Department.
In 2005 he left the Hospital to found, wit Raquel Tobes, Era7 Bioinformatics (www.era7bioinformatics.com). Working as the CEO of Era7, Eduardo Pareja has build a multidisciplinary team and led the company to the position in which Era7 Bioinformatics is the Next Generation Sequencing leader in Spain and it is a company ready to internationalize due to its portfolio of Cloud Computing based bioinformatics solutions and the International relationships Eduardo Pareja have helped to build.
PhD thesis about new algorithms for pattern searching in biological sequences based in finite state machines.
She has worked in research at the Hospital Virgen de las Nieves and at CSIC where she supervised several students.
From 2004 she is Research Director of Era7 Bioinformatics where she also is a co-founder.
Her main expertise is about Genomics, Next Generation Sequencing, Bioinformatics and Bacterial Genomics and Metagenomics. In these fields she is mainly interested in the designing and development of new algorithms and pipelines and bacterial repetitive sequences and genomic plasticity.
MSc Biochemistry. MSc in Mathematical Biology. Bioinformatician with ample experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Bacterial Genomics. She has special interest in bacterial metabolic pathways and she was deeply involved in the first annotation of the bacterial genome of the Escherichia coli EHEC Germany outbreak.
She is also very active in the developing and evolution of the Era7 bioinformatics bacterial genome annotation system BG7.
Flex/Java developer. Project Leader of Bio4j . He is an expert in graph based databases, like Neo4j, the graph database technology used in Bio4j.
He has been talking about Bio4j in many places and forums and he has been working as a visiting scientist in the Center for Applied Plant Science at the Ohio State University extending and integrationg Bio4j for plant genomics and transcriptomics.
He is also very interested in graphic representation of Big Data and new programming languages like Scala.
Mathematician. He works in algorithm design and cloud-based architecture design and development.
His research interests are algorithms for sequence analysis and category theory in systems biology.
He is now very interesd in new mathematical approaches for new algorithms dealing with assembly of data from Next Generation Sequencing. He is leading a new research project in this area at Era7 Bioinformatics.
